I love Pulau Langkawi. It’s one of the most beautiful Island in the world, and also a duty free Island. I’ve been there few times -prefer to go by ferry so that I can get a closer look at d beautiful Andaman Sea on the way there. The water is so green and the atmostphere is so calm. Famous for it’s beautiful scenery as well as 99 other small sounding islands, Langkawi gets visitors from all over the world. Pantai Cenang is one of the most popular spots -and it’s the most ‘happening’ place in the island too.*wink*
Anyway on most of my visits I prefer to stay at Pantai Tengah -which is not far from Pantai Cenang , and more peaceful and quiet. I am not a party animal -so that’s explaining why I prefer these places. I’ve once stayed at Temoyong, which is quite secluded and has fantastic views. Wherever I stay -other than holiday, I love shopping in Langkawi. Because of it’s duty free status -you can get plenty of things , among others ~chocolocates, clothing, household items which includes corelle : ) much cheaper than the main lain. Not forgetting cigarettes and liquor. So it’s a shopping heaven for people like me ~ does does not please my other’s half very much , though ,he he.
Food are relatively cheap too..specially seafood -they are fresh and there are plenty of sea food restaurans surrounding the island. You can take the cable car up to Gunung Macincang, go snorkeling, fishing and hire boats to get to those small islands -they are so amazing and beautiful ~ you wont regret. Transportations are cheap if you hire a car -but the secret is dont go during long public holiday i.e festives seasopn like Chinese New Year, Hari raya and school holidays and also end of the year -prices will definately go up-both accomodations and hiring cars -yo definately have to go deeper in your pocket.
To go to Langkawi you can take a flight straight from KL or any other place in the world -it’s realtively cheaper to go by air from KLIA now. Or you can also drive up to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis, and take the boat from these two places. The journey is shorter from Kuala Perlis -about 45 minutes, but would be slightly longer from Kuala Kedah. Cars are available for rent at both place -airport and the Jeti. You have to bargain for best price. Used to pay for RM70 per day for a brand new Nissan Sentra . So do your homework . You can get a luxury car at a relatively great price here -being a duty free place again -that is. So the idea of having a bridge connecting Pulau Langkawi and the mainland wont be that great, right -it will probably be like Penang -which use to be duty free once -when I was very little.
A recommended holiday destination in a Malaysia -A must!
